Hotel 1000 has been on my Seattle list for a while. Boutique luxury, waterfront-adjacent location, Forbes-listed, Michelin Key awarded — on paper, it checks every box. So I finally booked it. Here's my honest take.

Location & First Impressions

Hotel 1000

Situated at First and Madison in downtown Seattle, Hotel 1000 couldn't be better positioned. You're two blocks from the waterfront, a short walk to Pike Place Market, and close to pretty much everything worth seeing in the city core.

The lobby was nice but was missing that wow factor you hope for with a hotel at this procepoint. Check-in was smooth however, and the staff were genuinely warm — a strong start.

The Room

Contemporary king size bed

I stayed in room 1202, a king corner suite at 575 square feet. The size is the first thing you notice — this doesn't feel like a hotel room, it feels like a studio apartment, with windows on two sides flooding the space with light. Mine had more of a city view, though similar rooms are available with water views over Elliott Bay, which I'd probably go for next time.

The decor is light and contemporary — comfortable and unfussy. The bed delivered, which is really the most important thing. Practical touches land well too: the minibar had a price menu right on the desk (surprisingly rare, and genuinely appreciated), the coffee bar came with a Nespresso and kettle, and the closet was well-stocked with robes, slippers, an iron, a safe, and extra bedding. The snacks are predictably overpriced, but at least you know that going in.

If I'm being honest, the room is where Hotel 1000 is at its best — and also where I started to feel the slight gap between expectation and reality. It's polished and comfortable, but it doesn't quite have the design personality you might hope for at this price point. Nothing in the room makes you stop and think this place has a point of view. It's tasteful without being memorable.

The Bathroom — Highlight and Low Point

Freestanding bathtub with a view

The bathroom is where things get interesting. I'm a sucker for a freestanding bathtub, and this one comes with a genuinely unique feature: it fills from a ceiling-mounted spout rather than a standard faucet. A little gimmicky, slightly impractical, but completely unlike anything I've seen — and I loved it. Paired with a separate shower, Le Labo toiletries, and plenty of counter space, this bathroom looks and feels like the luxury centrepiece of the room and it was the primary reason I booked this specific room.

Which makes the hot water situation all the more frustrating. Both the evening I checked in and the morning I checked out, I struggled to get hot water — in both the bath and the shower. Lukewarm at best, and not a timing issue I could work around. I eventually got enough hot water for one good bath, but only after leaving it running for a while. I flagged it with the front desk; nothing was really done about it.

I can't say whether this is a recurring problem or just bad luck on my visit — if you've stayed here, I'd genuinely love to hear your experience in the comments. But for a hotel at $500+ a night with Le Labo on the bathroom shelf, inconsistent hot water is a real letdown.

Final Verdict

Hotel 1000 is a solid downtown Seattle base. The location is hard to beat, the room is spacious and comfortable, and when that bathtub is working as intended, it's a genuine highlight of the stay. But it falls a little short of the luxury experience it promises — both in terms of design personality and in practical execution. The hot water issue would keep me from rushing back or putting itat the top of y list, but otherwise it did really enjoy my stay.
