The Carry-On Essentials I Actually Reach For (My Tried-and-Tested Edit)

If you've watched any of my travel mini hauls, you know I have strong opinions about what earns a spot in a carry-on. Space is precious, every item counts, and I refuse to pack anything that doesn't pull its weight.
These are a few of my favorite in-flight travel items - all can be found in the Carry-On Essentials section of my shop.

For the Long Flight
Bose Quiet Comfort Earbuds

If there is one item I always have in my carry-on, it's a good set of ear buds. Whether i'm trying to relax to my favorite Spoitfy playlist or block out a screaming baby, these are a must-have. The noise cancellation on these turns a screaming cabin into a quiet little reading nook. If you only upgrade one thing for travel, make it your audio.
Loop Quiet Ear Plugs

And for the nights when I want silence and something a bit more comfortable, these are my low-tech hero. They take the edge off a noisy airport, a jet engine, or a chatty seatmate. They're reusable, they come in a tiny case that clips to anything, and they're so much better than those squishy foam earplugs. Loop also has a variety of options to choose from.
BeeVines Silk Sleep Mask

A proper blackout mask is a new addition for me. This one is silk, so it's gentle on the eyes, and it blocks light completely — cabin lights, the seatmate's screen, that 5am sun streaming into a hotel room with thin curtains. It's also affordable and comes in a 2-pack with a variety of color options.
For Staying Sane (and Charged)
INIU Power Bank

Nothing makes me more anxious than watching my phone hit 12% in an unfamiliar city when I still need my boarding pass, my maps, and directions to the hotel. This power bank is slim, light, and holds enough charge to top up my phone a couple of times over. INIU has a range of portable charger options including an Ultra Mini.
Teskyer Tech Organizer

If you've ever rooted around the bottom of a bag for a tangled charging cable, this one's for you. I keep all my cords, adapters and power bank zipped into this little organizer so everything has a home. It's super affordable and comes in multiple colors including pink.
Muji Wide-Opening Pouch

I'm a little obsessed with Muji's wrinkled nylon pouches because they come in so many different sizes. I use mine for everything from toiletries to tech and in-flight care kits. I have two full sets in pink and grey. And I'm not the only one - while i was writing this post they sold out online! Hopefully they'll re-stock soon, but I found mine in store, so you could check there as well.
For the Slow Moments
Kindle Paperwhite

You all know about my soft spot for books and cozy bookshops, so trust me when I say this hurt to embrace. But a Kindle Paperwhite means I can carry a whole library in my carry-on and save the luggage space for limited edition books I find on holiday. The glare-free screen reads beautifully in bright sun, the battery lasts for weeks, and it's a discrete way to hide the fact you're probably re-reading that spicy chapter from Fourth Wing (I know you are).
iPad Mini

One of the many things airlines are skimping on these days are in-flight entertainment systems. The long-haul flight I take each year to see my parents is about as bare-bones as you can get (I'm looking at you WesJet). So for me, a tablet is a must-have back-up for when you have 6-10 hours to kill and no built-in screen. iPad's Mini is the perfect size and has saved me on more than a few flights.
AirFly Bluetooth Adapter

If you're lucky enough to have an in-flight entertainment system, then this one might come in handy. I'm always forgetting my corded headphones, and if you've splurged on expensive ear buds or headphones, then you probably want to use them for watching movies. This adapter from AirFly solves that issue. Plug in and enjoy wireless audio accross the Atlantic.
For Self-Care
Laneige Lip Glowy Balm

You can't really go anywhere without a good lippie. I have dozens, but Laneige's Lip Glowy Balm is still a favorite and part of my nighttime routine. I'm partial to the Sweet Candy, Grapefruit and Vanilla scents.
Grace & Stella Eye Masks

I have a 10-step routine even when I travel, but I'm not really an in-flight skincare junkie. I do like a good eye mask afer a jet-lagged redeye though, and these single use packets from Grace & Stella are great for travel and easy to toss in your in-flight bag.
FAMKX Water Bottle

Staying hydrated on a flight is the single most underrated thing you can do for how you feel when you land. I fill mine up after security and keep sipping the whole way. A good reusable bottle also saves you from buying overpriced airport water and cuts down on plastic, which I appreciate. It's a small habit that makes a real difference to jet lag.
Happy travels — and let me know in the comments what's always in your carry-on. I'm always looking to upgrade!
